Mythos

A lot of Elena's beliefs come from her mother's native culture myths. Also she has a lot of Christian mythos from Ramon Emmanuel, colored by his sick interpretations of the Holy Book.

I need to get more information about Ohlone native stories. Elena can learn more about these through Ohlones she meets on the way to see her children. They will remind her of stories her mother told her as a child.

She will try to teach her children and influence her husband too, but when she gets back to the commune she will discover he was never going to send for her - in fact, he’s been granted a divorce already by Ramon Emmanuel, and has been remarried.

For Christianity I’ll contrast the group Ramon Emmanuel created with the Church as it exists in the missions and finally the Christianity of Elena’s as-yet unnamed male friend from San Francisco/Ireland. He has rejected the Catholic church but retains a great love for Christ and the Bible.
