Here's another great site by and about Ohlone natives: Indian Canyon.
The Sanchez Rancho was about fifty miles north of where I intend to place Elena in Ramon Emmanuel's commune. This page contains a great description of the Ohlone diet.
On the Indian Canyon site I found this document:

I can see already how this information will affect the story - especially when Elena tries to rescue her children. But will she be subject to the laws for Indians when she is half Mexican?
Some of the documents I wanted to read were missing - so I'll have to write to the webmaster to see if I can get them.
