Today I read about Doña María of Two Adobes... a look at the life of an Alta California woman who gave birth to thirteen children and could still supervise a rancho and hundreds of Native American workers afterwards. You'd have to be a tough woman to do what she did. The bio gave me plenty of information on what women in those days had to expect from life. It must have been nice to just put in a request for land and receive over 4000 acres. Those were the days!
